Casa Trei Pini

The clients arrived with a plot of land they had been walking on for fifteen years and a single non-negotiable: do not cut the three pines. The house is therefore a building drawn around trees rather than a plot drawn around a building. We sank the living level half a metre into the earth so the canopies sit at eye level from the kitchen, and we drew a single hand-laid brick chimney that runs from the cellar to the roof — a vertical seam that gathers the rooms around it.
